We would to Introduce you to one of our Traders, Edwin Cornelissen.
Below you will find out more about his journey on how he become a Trader for Trade View.
Introduction
I started out wanting to trade for the same reasons as everyone else; I want to make a lot of money, be my own boss and have the freedom to take my work anywhere.
I realised early on, that there are plenty of people out there who talk a good game online, but I could never be sure that they actually achieved the results they talked about.
I did not want to find myself sitting in a room full of people who don’t trade telling each other how to trade (the blind leading the blind)
That led me to think that if I was going to be successful as a trader, I had to find someone in the real world who actually traded for a living – I wanted to do what the professionals were doing.
After setting a goal of working at a professional trading firm and learning to trade like them, I decided to go to a handful of ‘trading events’ and was fortunate to be introduced to Rob, the Head Trader at Trade View.
After meeting with Rob, I knew Trade View was the real deal and I jumped at the chance to learn to trade the way they did.
Brief background about your trading
When I started, I had very little understanding of how the markets actually worked, but did have an interest in systematic trading.
I thought that if I could determine some entry and exit criteria, test them and make more profit than losses, say, 60% of the trades, I would be able to make money consistently.
Of course, once I came up with the ideas (which I had plenty), I needed to test and see which one worked. I wanted to make sure that before putting my money in the markets that the strategy I was using actually worked. I wanted to see it for myself and not some guru telling me it worked.
I was confident that if I had good results early, then I stood a chance of being ahead in the long run.
What you learnt at Trade View
My idea was to gain trading knowledge fast, I decided to do the In-House Systems Building Workshop here.
I started with the online version of the workshop and then came into the office and completed the In-house version a month later.
In two days, I learned how a professional trading firm looks at trading the markets – this was very different to all the things I had read online.
I was able to see elements of the Trade View Systems and was taught how to build my own automated systems – I think I picked it up quickly, to me it seemed really simple to do.
Within two days, I went from very little knowledge of the markets to seeing the markets through the eye of professional traders, also having the ability to build systems and test out all my ideas, to see how they performed over time. Once I could see how my systems were working, I could work on my entries and exits to get the most out of each system.
Please share some of your success and failures while learning to trade
Some of my early ideas that I had read about online just did not work. When I came to Trade View, Rob said “stop thinking like everyone else and start thinking more about the here and now, keep it simple and don’t overcomplicate it”
I wasn’t sure what he meant at first but once I changed my thought process It wasn’t long before I had built some profitable trading systems. This then lead to a seat on the trading desk and gained access to firm capital.
Here are some images from the backtest of a simple system I built (it’s not overly complex, so performs very similar to this in live trading).
Conclusion
What are your future Goals?
My Goal is simple, focus on building more systems, diversifying my portfolio and continuing to work as a trader.
