Trading Talk Episode 425 | Swing High and Swing Low Breakout Strategy

In Episode 425 of Trading Talk, Eddie explores swing trading and demonstrates how swing highs and swing lows can be used to build a systematic breakout trading model.

Swing points can appear simple when reviewing a completed chart. However, identifying and trading them in real time can be more difficult because the market must first confirm that a genuine swing has formed.

In this episode, we convert these important price levels into clear trading rules. The model buys when price breaks above a confirmed swing high and sells when price breaks below a confirmed swing low.

Why Swing Points Can Be Difficult to Trade

A swing high or swing low is only confirmed after additional price movement occurs. This creates a delay between the formation of the level and the point at which it can be used by a trading system.

Eddie explains how this confirmation process affects real-time execution and why traders need clearly defined rules before using swing points within an automated strategy.

Building the Swing Breakout Logic

The strategy uses confirmed swing levels as breakout points. When price moves above a swing high, the model can enter a buy trade. When price moves below a swing low, the model can enter a sell trade.

This provides a structured way to participate when the market moves beyond an established price level rather than attempting to predict the breakout before it occurs.

Adding Trade Management and Re-Entry Rules

After establishing the entry conditions, the episode introduces several management rules designed to control how the strategy behaves after a trade is opened.

These include a take-profit function, drawdown protection, and re-entry logic. The re-entry conditions allow the model to respond when price initially pulls back and then continues through the breakout level.
